A Bigger,
Wider Smile

Attention To Detail — Broad, Healthy Smiles

How wide should your smile be?

There has been a lot of research on what differentiates a “good” smile from a “great” smile, and the answer may surprise you. As you would expect, the front teeth should be straight and aligned but it is HOW they are aligned that makes the difference!

Studies show people are attracted to smiles when someone has a wider arch that reveals the posterior teeth. When you think about celebrities most famous for their smiles, they all have wider smiles. Wider smiles are more appealing as they create a sense of balance and symmetry in the face.

But every smile is unique. Dr. DiGiovanni places much thought in your smile design with a focus on arch width. At your first visit and continually throughout your treatment we will discuss treatment progress and goals.

You may want to refer to our smile design page and the results page, which further discusses how we design each patient’s treatment to address your concerns and obtain the most esthetic and functional result.

Width of smile is of the most important factors in establishing the most esthetic result possible. But there must be balance in the smile with relation to your face. Too narrow a smile may give the appearance of missing teeth, while too wide a smile can appear “too full” and unattractive as well. Arch expansion is possible in adult patients as well as younger patients who are growing. In either case, Dr. DiGiovanni’s focus is for you to have the most radiant smile with a treatment tailored specifically to what’s best for you
