Correcting Developing Dental Problems With Invisalign

Correct developing dental problems with Invisalign First clear aligners.

Invisalign First® is designed to make corrections in the positioning of growing teeth available for growing children as an alternative to braces. The Invisalign First system utilizes dental arch expansion to help create room for incoming adult teeth. In select cases, Invisalign can be used to treat orthodontic conditions, including:

  • Crowding
  • Spacing
  • Expansion and smile widening
  • Self-confidence
  • Avoid tooth extraction
  • Protruding teeth
  • Gum recession
  • Tooth wear

Benefits to Invisalign for Phase I

  • Less discomfort
  • Less visible
  • Customized digital treatment planning to your child’s unique needs
  • Broad range of treatment for orthodontic malformations
  • Can be removed for eating, drinking, and brushing their teeth and for special events
Invisalign for Phase I is specially designed for younger growing patients to correct a wide variety of orthodontic issues. Phase I Invisalign can achieve phenomenal results comparable to braces. (see examples below) BUT… it takes excellent compliance to wear the Invisalign trays at least 20 hours per day. Dr. DiGiovanni prescribes phase I treatment only if needed to help prevent more serious problems in the future. If you are interested in Invisalign first for your child, Dr. DiGiovanni will discuss this option with you at your child’s new patient exam.

INVISALIGN PALATE EXPANDER

DiGiovanni Orthodontics was one of the first offices to use this removable palate expander

THE INVISALIGN PALATAL EXPANDER overview

Why would my child want a removable expander?
  • It is removable. This enables the patient to brush and floss the teeth without extra efforts and there are no dietary restrictions- you can eat anything you like!
  • The expander is precisely 3D printed and follows the curvature of the palate extremely well. The custom curvature makes the expander very comfortable
  • The activations are small so there is really no pain

SO, Why would my child not want a removable expander?

  • It is removable. It has to be worn 22 hours per day. It takes a ton of discipline and responsibility to wear this all the time. If you don’t wear it, it doesn’t work. If you lose it, it doesn’t work. But if your child is very responsible with this type of thing (keeping track of phone, eye glasses, etc.), they would likely be an excellent candidate for the Invisalign expander!
Invisalign has developed a removable 3D-printed nylon palatal expander called the Invisalign Palatal Expander (IPE). It consists of a series of 3D-printed expanders, which follow the curvature of the palate and cover the posterior teeth. Each expander has an activation of 0.25 mm and is designed to be worn full-time and changed to a new tray daily or every other day, according to Dr. DiGiovanni’s prescription.
